Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, this role involves setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) lathes, mills, and machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal workpieces to precise specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment to meet production rates and quality standards.
- Load materials into machines and unload finished parts.
- Monitor and remove metal chips from tools and equipment, disposing of them properly.
- Report any unusual noises or machine issues to the supervisor or lead.
- Ensure proper cutting conditions and notify the lead or supervisor if tools are not functioning correctly.
- Perform basic housekeeping to maintain a clean and orderly workstation, including minor machine upkeep such as surface cleaning and lubrication.
- Hand deburr or sand parts as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of CNC lathe or mill experience or a similar combination of experience and training.
- Knowledge of shop practices and procedures, with the ability to read blueprints and use hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
- Capable of writing routine information on routers and SPC charts.
- Proficiency in applying math skills to solve problems.
- Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Capable of addressing problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- The employee must be able to sit, talk, or hear regularly, use hands to handle or feel frequently, and occasionally stand and walk.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds occasionally.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
